Solar Lights for Patio Umbrellas

When looking for some soft lighting for your outdoor space, an easy solution is to look at Solar Lighted Patio Umbrellas.  These will give you some light to play cards, games, eat dinner or just sit around and chat.  These type of lights will not turn your outdoor space into daylight.

Lets look at these three examples.

Rectangular Solar Powerd Umbrella10′ x 6.5′ Rectangular Solar Powered LED Lighted Patio Umbrella

The Rectangular Umbrella will have four longer ribs with five LED lights each with two shorter ribs having only three LED lights. There is an off/on switch for controlling your lights just below the crank for raising and lowering the top.

The umbrella is 6 1/2 feet on the short side and 10 feet on the long side.  It will tilt from the long side to the long side.  Under the Umbrella will be about 6 1/2 feet of standing room with the umbrella straight up.

The canvas top is mad of a polyester material that will withstand mildew.  The pole is a regular 1 1/2 inch steel painted black.

The square solar panel on the top will charge the 1500mAh rechargeable battery for about nine to twelve hours of light from the 26 LED bulbs.  Make sure the switch is in the off position to charge the batteries for night operation.  No need to run an extension cord to get light for night time entertainment.

Solar Powered Lighted Umbrella

This is a nine foot tall umbrella with 32 LED lights, four on each of the eight steel ribs. The lights can be controlled with an off/on switch located below the crank for raising and lowering the canopy.

The polyester fabric canopy is six feet across and nine feet tall when opened.  The two piece steel pole and ribs are painted black.  Has three position tilt, upright, left and right.

The square solar panel will recharge the batteries during the day. Make sure the switch for the lights is in the off position for proper charging of the batteries during the daylight hours.  Takes two rechargeable AA batteries.

This Solar Powered Umbrella has wooden frame and pole.  The two piece pole will screw together. The high grade polyester canopy has a easy to use pulley system for raising and lowering.  Canopy can be purchase in three colors- red, taupe and green.  The umbrella is 98 inches tall when opened.  This umbrella does not tilt.

The nine foot canopy will have eight ribs with five LED lights to each rib.  A round solar panel will recharge the batteries for light after dark.  I did not see mention of a light switch.  In some pictures I did see a push button switch hanging from one of the ribs.

  1. Glad i found this site. I have been searching for outside lighting since I came back from Slovakia for the summer. Every bar i went to had these lights under the umbrellas. The light was pretty dim, but it was just enough to see what you are doing. ie not in pitch black. There are no suppliers I could find in the UK, so i guess i will have to order from afar.

    • Doug,

I am not sure what is available in the UK, I am based in the USA. These were available from Wal Mart online. Do you have a store like this in the UK. Amazon did carry some of these, not all of them, I do not know if they ship to the UK.

  2. Summer has come to an end here in New England. We had a great time sitting outside in the evenings by the fire. This will be an investment for us next spring. Cannot wait for the warm weather to return.

  3. I have heard about these Solar Lights for Patio Umbrellas but have not had time to look more closely. We often eat out on an evening, or just sit outside and have a few drink but the main outside lights can sometimes be a little bit too bright and attract insects. The Solar Lighted Patio Umbrella lights seem to offer the ideal solution. Your point that the lights make the umbrellas more top heavy is very valid and may make the umbrella steadier in light wind.
I am so pleased I came across your informative blog and have followed your links through to the main selling website.
    Thank you for the information

Having links to all of the items you will need for your outdoor rooms is what this site is about. Most people only have a small table and chair set. I can see if you use your outdoor space wisely you will need a lot more items for your guest. I will continue to expand my flow of information.

  5. Hello, John
what an amazing article. my step brother is into Solar Lighted Patio Umbrellas and he is really going to like this one.
Amongst the different umbrellas you mentioned, I really like the CorLiving Patio Umbrella with Solar Power LED Lights. If I will have to buy one then I will go for that one.

All of these Umbrellas have good points. Each person will have to make the choice on the one that fills their needs the most. The only bad thing that I can see with them is that they are top heavy with a lightly constructed pole.

Not many people have heard of these. They make sense if you use your outdoor space as a room. You will be outside a lot of the time and you will want to play games or other things with some light.

  6. This solar lighted patio umbrella is gorgeous. Unfortunately it’s too cold to sit outside until next summer. Hopefully next summer I will be able to look into getting one of these – money permitting!

What would be the minimum amount of sunlight to charge this up?

    Nice review.

    • Hannah,
Most will charge in the 8 to 10 hours of sunlight. These Umbrellas have a shutoff switch for the lights so you only have them on when they are needed. They must be in the off position to charge. If you use in the summer and turn off by midnight you will only need about 3 to 4 hours of good light from the Umbrella.

  7. I happened across your site and very glad I did. I didn’t know they made umbrellas like this. I love it! I have very little light in my yard and was wondering about how best to illuminate it, at least at the table.

Do you know if the lights draw bigs like other light?

    Reply
    • Debra,
The lights are smaller and not on the table, if they draw bugs they will be above your head. I have not been bothered by bugs with my LED lights.

  9. This is a totally cool item. I used to spend many nights under the umbrella with candles and such. This would be perfect. Great job describing every aspect of the product and offering additional products that compliment it.

This would be a lot safer that burning candles under a cloth umbrella. Also would not be as messy. Just a simple off/on switch and you have lights for your outside entertainment.

Thanks for the article, I really do like this setup, and it makes such great sense.
Do you have one and if so how bright are they?
They can get a bit spendy, but I still really think they are cool.
    Keep the cool stuff coming!

I do not have one at this time, they have enough light to play cards or games. It would be difficult to read a book. It is better than hanging the trailer lights from your umbrella.

  11. This is very interesting. I never even thought of this until I came across your site. LED lights will make you enjoy sitting outside longer just enjoying each others company. I don’t need it to be bright anyway because the least light will be enough in darkness.

  12. Hi Chris,

Great post – these umbrellas are so pretty! Are they suitable for all types of weather? I have always liked fairy lights and wound they around my bay trees.I then switch them on during the summer and of course at Christmas time! Do you know of any good white solar fairy lights? Thanks for your help.

  13. AMAZING!

I have no words for these solar lighted patio umbrellas because they are simply awesome!

Now that it’s summer time here in the UK (BBQ weather), a light up umbrella would certainly add a magic touch to the garden, especially when it gets dark and the stars come out.

I really love the shape of the 9 foot deluxe umbrella for my patio area. 🙂

    Cheers!

Having any type of outdoor activity after dark will be made a lot better with an Umbrella with lights. Having the ability to light up your card game is a great advantage.
