White Vinyl Pergola Kits
If you have been looking to create a separate outdoor living space, a Vinyl Pergola can give you a defined space. It will give you a room with or without walls. You can use it to get some privacy for you Deck or Patio area. You can use it to enclose a Hot Tub or just an area fro relaxing with a conversation set or small table and chairs for dining. Let us look at what you get and what are the advantages of a vinyl pergola.
Whats the Advantage of a Vinyl Pergola
These Pergola's are made from high-grade polymers to form the white vinyl frame with steel or aluminum re-enforced inner structures. The vinyl material will need very little care, a wash off with water from a garden hose. The vinyl will not mildew, rot, rust, yellow, crack, warp and resist damage from insects. It has a warranty for 20 years from the manufacturer.
Portland Pergola
The Portland Pergola is the smaller of the two. If you have a small space that is about 8 foot square this pergola will fit nicely. This pergola does not have a kit to cover the top to keep it from sailing in high wind or the extra weight of snow belt homeowners. Be careful with hanging baskets from the cross beams, as the top is only rated to hold up 50 pounds. Customers have stated that it has withstood winds over 60 miles per hour when mounted correctly.
Assembly will require at least two people because of the overhead work you will also have to have at least one ladder. Other tools that are needed are cordless drill driver, level, drill bits and a measuring tape. You will have to start with a level surface or make adjustments to the length of the legs. Check mounting instructions below to see what will work for your installation.
The pergola will arrive in three box's that will weigh about 165 pounds total. It will measure 7 foot square and 83 inches tall on the inside. The outside measures 7 foot 6 inches square and 93 inches tall.
Included in the kit will be the following list of parts:
- 4-five inch square post that are 94 1/2 inches tall
- 9-1 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch beams that are 96 inches long
- 7-1 3/4 inch square by 94 1/2 inch filters
- 4-5 inch square post caps
- 18-1 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch end caps
- 14-1 3/4 inch square end caps
- Hardware kit
Venetian Pergola
The larger Venetian Pergola will give you a larger living space in your outdoor space. This pergola is larger at 10 foot square under the canopy. Beams have steel reinforcements to add to a solid structure. The white premium high-grade polymers (Vinyl) will give many years of maintenance free use. Top Slats are about one foot apart to provide partial shade.

Mounting options for your Pergola
There are at least two major mounting options for your Pergola. If you are mounting the Pergola on a concrete or other solid surface, use mounting brackets sold separately. If you are mounting your Pergola on a grass or dirt area you can use pressure treated 4 X 4 post. Let us look at these two options. The more solid your foundation is the more solid your finished product will be. Don't let your wife come out after it is up and pull over your Pergola with a basket of flowers.
Buried 4 X 4 post
In this method you stake out where your 4 X 4 post, that will need to be 10 foot long, will be to dig down at least 3 feet. You will need at least one bag of concrete for each post. Use cross measurements to make sure that the Pergola will be square. Use a level to get the post perfectly upright, use some spare wood as a prop to make sure it does not move during the setup. and pore your bag concrete around the post. Wet the concrete with water and wait for it to set. If you have measured correctly everything will be alright.
4 X 4 post with brackets for concrete surface or wood deck
Your kit will contain 4 galvanized steel brackets, 5/32 concrete drill bit, driver bit and 28-1/4 by 2 3/4 inch concrete screws. On a solid surface, such as concrete slab or a wooden deck, you would measure where your post would be and use chalk or another method to mark your spots. Mark the three spots for the mounting screws.
Use your level at this point to make sure the brackets are level. You may have to use some galvanized washers to level the brackets as most concrete pads have a slope for drainage. If you do not get the brackets level at this point your Pergola may lean in the direction of the slope.
Drill your mounting holes, mount brackets with included concrete screws. If you are mounting to a wooden deck use the screws that were used to attach the deck boards. At this time you will need to attach a 4 X 4 treated post to the bracket for your vinyl post to slide over. Read the directions of each Pergola as the length of the post could be different.

Thank you for the information on the pergolas. I have always been interested in putting one in my yard, however I was not sure where to start or if it was realistic for me to do. Looking at your information, I believe I can and have an idea of what to expect!
Ilyssa,
Giving the proper information is what this site is about. If you want to define a area in your outdoor space a Vinyl Pergola will do that. You can take a corner or let it stand on its on in free space.

These two white vinyl pergola kits make it easy to create a stylish outdoor space. At about 8 feet square, the Portland Pergola makes a pleasant sitting area while the Venetian Pergola is a bit larger at about 10 feet square.
You recommended at least two people work together to set these up. So, with two people working together either one of these could be set up in a day. Is that about right?
G C,
Normally it will take from 6 to 8 hour to install these Pergola’s with two people. Of course the method that it is attached to the surface will determine if those 6 to 8 hours will be all in one setting. If you are working with concrete, you will have to wait until it sets before you can continue with the installation.

At the start of my reading I had no idea what a pergola was. With the detailed information you have given, I could be a sales representative for pergolas.
Very well presented and the 5 minute plus video footage just seals it all perfectly.
Is there a way that you could move those social icons to the right hand side of the page. they kind of make the reading a bit difficult but all in all, very informative page.
Ronniem,
The five minute video is provided by the manufacture. It shows the installation taking the five minutes. It will take most of the day with two people.
John
I like your information about the white vinyl pergola kits. I have always wanted to have an area like this for sitting and relaxing. I will have to convince my husband that it will be fairly easy to assemble with a friend and won’t take much time at all.
Do they come in different colors or can you paint them?
Christine,
They only come in white. Other manufacturers do have them in brown. Painting them will void your warranty, as it will change the outside of the structure. If not done correctly it will peal and look terrible.

Pergola’s are definitely “in” nowadays. They’re a great way to add some simple interest to landscaping, plus they create a great additional space. I can’t tell whether or not I’d like the vinyl or wood styles better because they both look really good.
I’d like to have one of these in my yard after I get a few other projects done. Thanks for writing about them, this is a great resource.
Bryan-
Bryan,
Pergolas will set up different areas of your outdoor space. You can make them a separate room from the rest of your outdoor activities.
John
Hi John, my wife and I were just discussing installing a pergola on our patio the other day. My initial thought was to go with a traditional wooden one (and I still might), but I do really like the idea of the low maintenance aspect of vinyl.
We would opt for the Venetian model out of the two you listed because our space is larger, but on thing gives me pause. You mentioned wind on the Portland model, but not on the Venetian. Is this something to be concerned about? It’s not frequent but we do experience hurricane force winds in our area on occasion.
Christian,
Wind will be a concern the larger the Pergola. Most Pergola’s have only four legs for foundation, you need to make sure these are attached properly and do not use a canopy unless you can remove it when you expect high winds. If you have a proper mounting and foundation you will not have any trouble.

Hi John, thanks for the great information about vinyl Pergola kits, yes as you say, vinyl materials don’t need a care, washable and don’t rust, they seem great.
I’d like a small one in my garden, and will be nice if I can have a hot tub built underneath, then I can enjoy my outdoor life even in the cold winter. To mount Pergola seem a little tricky, but with your instruction it makes it easy. So thanks for the great article again.
Ray
Ray,
Having had two hot tubs before, this can be a great addition to your outdoor area. I can remember sitting in my hot tub with snow falling on us. It is a great thing to have in the winter to use in your outdoor room.
John
The kits do look amazing mate, honestly brilliant, they seem resilient too. Would the hat relieved by a fireplace affect these somehow long term? I would like place on near my firepace.
Samantha,
Properly built, any Pergola will last a long time. The relief for the flue may have to be upgraded to make sure the structure is sound.
