Led Bollard Landscape Lights
Do you have a long driveway that people sometimes cannot see to stay on when they leave at night? Giving it one of these Solar LED Bollard Landscape Lights on each side will make it look like a runway and people will stay out of the ditch or your grass. They do not provide a great deal of light, just enough to keep people lined up to get out safely.
These examples will give your outdoor area some lighting that will give you some safety and security without flooding you with light. The soft glow of the solar bollard lights will allow you to put them on the paths to your front door and not keep you awake at night with the bright light of a security light.
The great advantage of solar lights is that you do not have to run wires or be close to a 110-volt power source. Now let us look at three examples and compare the products to see if one will work for you.
I will give you the details of three different styles of these Bollard Landscape Lights to choose from. Follow the details below, if you want to just look at the current pricing and availability, use this link.

This six-pack of bollard lighting has the look of the more expensive line voltage bollard lighting. The fixture has a short wide stake that will hold it in the ground, with a plastic frosted lens to give you 360 degrees of lighting. The stainless steel body will be available in three colors, black, copper (shown in image), or silver.
The fixture is 2.5 inches across and 15 inches tall with a stake. It will be about 10.5 inches tall above the ground. The solar panel has a light sensor to turn the fixture on at night, the amount of time the fixture is on is determined by the charge in the battery. Customers have stated that they get about 6 hours of light with each charge of the rechargeable 1 AA 1.2 V600 mAh- Ni-MH.battery.
Some assembly is required, attach the head unit to the body and then attach the stake to the bottom. Because the stake is short, solid ground is the best for this application. Allow a full day's charge for this fixture to produce the best light. Make sure the switch is turned to the on position under the head after the first day of charging.

The total height is 15.5 inches with a 4.75-inch stake. The fixture is 4.75 by 6.5 inches across the top. The light sensor in the top solar panel will turn on this fixture at dark for about 8 hours of illumination, depending on the amount of sunlight during the day.
Assembly will require the four parts to be snapped together before putting in the ground. This is a single fixture, the others have 6 or 8 fixtures in each set.

This LED bollard light will have the look of a light house with the light at the top and the grid design of the globe cover. This Eight-piece set of fixtures has a black plastic body and a crystal ribbed lens.
The LED bulb will put out 6 lumens each from the AA 1.2V 600mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for up to 8 hours of illumination per day depending of the amount of sun.
Each fixture is 15.4 inches tall with the stake and 2.5 inches across. Comes with a 4.5-inch long stake to secure the fixture in the ground. The fixtures come partialy assembled, you must add the stake to the bottom.
Troubleshooting your solar bollard lights
Some troubleshooting should be done if your light does not operate properly. If there is an off and on switch under the head unit, make sure it is in the on position. Some fixtures come with a plastic tab to keep the battery from discharging during storage, this must be removed for the fixture to operate.
Factory rechargeable batteries sometimes do not work very long, battery replacement may be needed, look at my article here on Rechargeable Battery Replacement. Check the security of the wiring, some customers stated that the wires to the battery or battery itself came loose during shipping.
As with any solar lights, the biggest problem is recharging the batteries during the day. Make sure that the fixture gets 8-10 hours of sunlight each day. The solar panel must remain clear to properly charge. Do not install close to another source of bright light, the light sensor will not turn on the fixture if it gets too much light at night.
Although these lights are weather-resistant, so not install close to sprinkler heads as the water will short these fixtures out.
Conclusion on these LED Bollard Landscape Lights

Hey John, thabnks for the very informative post. I have this problem often when pulling out of my driveway, and this seems like a great solution.

Chris,
Marking a long driveway will keep the grass in better condition and keep your vehicle from getting damaged if you have a drop off or obstacle on the side.

Hey John, great article and review of these solar bollard outdoor lights. I must agree with you it is so convenient and easy to use. We have recently bough a few solar lights and have been very impress with it. We have placed a few next to the walkway to our backdoor, which used to be very dark. They offer sufficient light to see where you are going and like you mentioned they don’t flood your lawn with too much light.
All the best,
Joe
Joe,
Having the right amount of light is just as important as having light. Just think of sitting in a quiet area with your favorite beverage and partner, and the big security light comes on. Does that just kill a mood.
John
I really love this site as I see so many great ideas I would love to use. I have been looking to upgrade my current solar lights along my walkway to the front door. I was never really happy with the current ones and it seems like I am constantly having to change the batteries even though we get plenty of sunlight. I really like the look of the Paradise Lighting Solar 1.2-Lumen Stainless Steel Bollard Light. Keep up the great work.
Patrick
Patrick,
If you are having problems with rechargeable batteries, you want to look at the amount of sunlight daily or check the solar panel for it being clean. These are the two biggest problems with solar lights.
John
Great review! I think these would be useful in terms of safety and even deterring any trespassers but aside from that I think they’d be really good spotlighting for any focal features in gardens too.
Sharon,
You could use them for security of your home. They will not put out too much light to highlight any items in your outdoor space.
