One of these sets will allow you to enjoy years of entertainment for your guest.  You can also use these furniture sets indoors as well. You could have them indoors and when you have a big outdoor bash, just move outdoors for the party.  Before we look at these sets, let us find out what Teak furniture is and why do we need to have this high grade wood in our outdoor space.
What is Teak Wood and Why do we need it for our outdoor furniture
The first use of Teak Wood was for decks and railings on sailing ships. Â The wood keep up so well, when the ships were scraped much of the wood was used to make furniture for use outdoors. Much of this fine furniture is still in use today. The teak wood decks of the Titanic are still in great shape today after over 100 years under the sea. Â Imagine how your furniture will look in 100 years, even if you do not live under the water.
Teak Wood comes from the Teak tree that is mostly found in dry hilly terrains in Southeast Asia. Â It grows very slowly and most of the trees that are used are commercially grown on tree farms in Indonesia. It takes about 50 years to grow and harvest a Teak wood tree.
The natural oils in this wood will keep it from splitting, rotting, termite or other insect damage or fungi and mildew.  Teak wood will remain the same shape and size as it will not shrink over time like other woods.
Teak wood  can be left to age in the sun to a Silver Gray color or if you keep your furniture out of the sunlight it will remain the original honey blond color.  Re-oiling with natural oils will retain the original color.  Staining or varnishing can bring this color to shinny finish that will last.  As you can see you can make your fine furniture the color you desire over time.
What about the furniture that is in this post?  The furniture comes unassembled (the wood parts) and is easy to assemble.  The 8 inch thick Sunbrella cushions that come with the furniture can be ordered in 42 different styles that will last outdoors without mildew, and minimal discoloration.  The mortise and tenon joinery will give your furniture the strength to last a lifetime.  This furniture will bring the comfort of your indoor space to your outdoor space.

Care for your Teak Wood Outdoor Furniture
You will only use mild soap and water to clean up the surface of your fine Teak furniture, any other harsh chemicals or oils will shorten the life of the finish. Â Salt water is used by many of the boat experts to clean the surface, as this prevents it from drying out, mildew, algal growth or shrinking. Â The salt water helps to retain the oils that are just below the surface.
Do not use a pressure washer or hard bristled brush to clean the surface of your furniture. Â This will permanently damage the wood.
Teak – to Weather or Not to Weather?
Left outdoors, and will mellow to a gray silver patina. Â If you have to sand a damaged area, the color of the wood uncovered may be different that the surface if you have let your wood age.
If you are going to use an oil to keep the color of the wood, use linsed or tung oil, this will give you the best results.
You can varnish your furniture, this will give a Deep shinny finish that will last.
As you can see, you can make your teak furniture match your outdoor space and it will retain the color that you choose with little maintenance.

Conclusion
My recommendation is that if you are looking to purchase outdoor furniture that will last your lifetime, Teak Wood is the type of furniture that you will look at. Â You can make it age as you prefer, or oil to keep the as new look. Â This will be the last time you will need to purchase outdoor furniture for you home.

All of the furniture you have listed here looks pretty nice. We are actually in the process of destroying my current deck with the plan to rebuild. This will take quite a while, but eventually we will get to the point where we can buy some nice outdoor furniture and any of the options you have listed here would work great!!
Devin,
I will work on some other options in the future, check back when you have that deck finished and we can talk about all of the options that are available for you and your outdoor space.

Hey there, I had no idea about the significance of Teak Wood. I’m currently in the market for new patio furniture and it seems like it would be a nice investment to use something like this. How is Teak furniture usually priced? Are the prices fair for it’s quality? Thanks for the information.
Veronica,
Te price is fair considering once you purchase your Teak Wood Furniture, it will probably outlast you with proper care. Some people get sticker shock when looking at the price, you get what you pay for applies here.

Hey John,
While my father has been dealing in timber but i never got involved and understood what is what. Know, i know what is teak wood and what to go for when i am purchasing outdoor furniture. Thanks for sharing this information. Any other tips that you want to share while buying outdoor furniture?
Chax,
Several things when looking at outside furniture. The size of your space is the first one. How many people need seating. The material your furniture is made of. Do you want cushions. How are you going to store your furniture when not needed.
John
My husband and I need some new patio furniture and a friend suggested we look at something made out of teak wood.
Your article did a great job of explaining the wood and how to maintain it. I didn’t realize that it could last so long. I love the look of wood patio furniture but I assumed it would need to be replaced quite often. This does not seem to be the case with teak. Although it does sound like it shouldn’t be left outside year round (we get quite a bit of snow here in the winter).
I will share this information with my husband.
Simone,
Depends on the look you want for your Teak Furniture. It can be left outside without any damage, it will just need more upkeep to keep the golden color. If you are OK with the white wash look, just don’t let animals chew on it. Furniture Covers can help winter your outdoor furniture also, as they will keep the sun and elements off for the duration.

I had no idea that teak was so durable. I have often steered away from using timber for outdoor anything because of the degradation of the wood. One will certainly take good care of teak wood furniture considering it takes so long for one tree to mature.
This furniture really looks stunning and well worth considering when next one is upgrading.
All the best, John.
John,
This is a once in a lifetime investment. Once you buy your Teak Furniture you should never have to replace it with any other furniture. If you buy any other wood furniture, you will probably go through several sets before the Teak will expire. It does require a little upkeep, everything that you want to look nice will need some upkeep.
I have officially seen several sites like this one and am now curious are they all yours as in this would be the 3rd time I have commented? I am stating this because prior to working at WA I had not even heard of the idea of “Outdoor Rooms,” let alone that it would be popular enough to be worth sharing about.
Do you have an outdoor room of your own? If so what sort of style did you go with? And is it in a wooded setting, attached to your home in a way, or by chance out in the yard?
Thank you for the info,

Zach,
I do have several areas in my outdoor space that would be considered Outdoor Rooms. A lot of people use their outdoor space to extend the indoor space. Many people in the southern states can use these rooms year round. When I lived in Florida I used my outdoor room by the pool for gatherings and parties. Style will vary with the amount of space you have and the purpose that you are trying to create.
A Pergola would be a ideal setting for an outdoor room. A deck, patio or balcony can be turned into an outdoor room with some furniture, lighting and some shade. I have a deck, two patios, a front seating area and a swing in the back yard for some of my outdoor rooms.

I love outdoor living and enjoyed reading your post on the furniture available.
Teak wood is a fantastic product and I would happily invest in a set of furniture based on the information you give. I think its a case of seeing is believing, once you own a set you will never look back.
Do you own some yourself?
Charlotte,
I had some when I lived in Florida. Moved to the midwest and left it down there. Some very good furniture. I think it helped sell the house.
